I am very excited about this cruise because it is my graduation cruise to become a Princess Commodore. “Commodore” is a designation given to Travel Consultants who have taken an educational course designed by Princess to teach Consultants all about Princess cruises. The last step to becoming a “Commodore” is taking a graduation cruise. So, once this cruise is under my belt, I will officially be a Princess Commodore! I am also excited because this will be the longest cruise I’ve ever taken. For 16 days we will sail from Tianjin, China all the way to Whittier, Alaska. I will visit three different countries, cross the International Date Line and surely see things I have never seen before. This is going to be an adventure of a lifetime!
My husband and I have never been to Asia before, so we decided to do a pre-cruise visit to Beijing. Beijing is the capital of China and home to the Great Wall of China. We also visited the Drum Tower where we saw a dramatic drum ceremony(our YouTube video is at: http://youtu.be/w2h9I70TozM) and the Great Wall of China. It’s amazing to be able to get up close and personal with one of the Seven Wonders of the World!
From Beijing we headed to Tianjin to board the Diamond Princess… what a beautiful ship! From Tianjin we crossed the Bohai Sea to Dalian. This is China’s largest port and was once occupied by Russia - you can still see the archetectural influences today. Even though the history of this city is fascinating… what really caught our attention was the local farmer’s market, where seahorses and starfish are bought and sold to eat! I don’t even know how one goes about eating a starfish, but if you know, please respond to this blog love to find out!
