Sue Wheeler's Adventures at Sea
Itinerary – Asia North Pacific
Ship – Diamond Princess
Length – 16 Days
Total Distance – 5,040 Nautical Miles
(5,800 Statute Miles or 9,334 Kilometers)
Ports – Tianjin, China; Dalian, China; Busan, South Korea;
Osaka, Japan; Yokohama, Japan; Whittier, Alaska
Just as the sun started to rise, our ship made her way through the channel that leads to the Yokohama Bay. Yokohama is home to the world’s largest city – Tokyo. With a population of approximately 12 million people, I was a little nervous about exploring Tokyo… but Princess made it so easy! The tour my husband and I went on was wonderful plus we got a Port Guide that was very helpful. Port Guides are given to all passengers every time the ship docks in a port. (The image to the right is a section of my Yokohama Port Guide). These handy pamphlets are filled with all kinds of information including a brief history of the
area, maps, statistics and helpful tips on how to get around the city. Tokyo is an electric city, but it is also beautiful! Flowers are everywhere and Keith liked the women dressed in their traditional garb! After our tour of Yokohama and Tokyo, we boarded the ship and set sail across the North Pacific. It took a week for us to get to our final destination in Whittier, Alaska and I thoroughly enjoyed the time at sea. For relaxation I read books or went to the spa. For fun we would go dancing, see a show or have Afternoon Tea. Everyday there was something different to do – enrichment lectures, yoga, trivia, movies or a golf competition. The trip was the perfect combination of excitement and peace.
