Susan Disney-Greenberg’s Adventure Aboard Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth Traveling Through the Fjords of Norway – Cunard Traditions
One of the best features on board the Queen Elizabeth is the Royal Spa. My first day on the ship I scheduled reservations for the whole week. My first time there I could hardly believe it… I was filled with peace and calm. Picture a large thermal pool with a cozy area that has warming relaxation chairs and floor to ceiling glass windows on two sides. It was wonderful just sitting and looking out over the sea. Go in another direction and there is a room that houses several types of saunas and my favorite – the herbal steam room. The Royal Spa is the perfect oasis for couples and singles, but be sure to reserve early… they only admit 80 people per voyage.
Another wonderful tradition I enjoyed was the Cunard Ball. What fun to see all the ladies in their long ball gowns and men in tuxedos against the backdrop of the elegant Queens Room. For added fun – many of the Scottish men wore dress kilts. At the start of the Ball, tradition dictates that guests do a Gullah dance – of course, I had to participate and it ended up being a great mixer. We also tried our hand at a traditional English Barn dance to the White Cliffs of Dover. It was evident that many of the couples took ballroom dance lessons. Fortunately, my husband and I have also taken lessons and this was a great way to practice our skills!
