Valerie recently returned from her hosted group cruise on Windstar Cruises where they sailed from Rome and discovered the splendors of Sicily.
This was Valerie’s first time on the Wind Surf. Originally built as a sailing ship, Wind Surf is a small luxury ship that is spacious and comfortable and holds only 310 passengers. On any given day, this flagship draws admiring glances as it majestically departs ports with its tall sails billowing in the wind. On Valerie’s cruise, there were more than a few tears shed as the sails went up and the sail away song began to play (1492 Conquest of Paradise).
One thing Valerie loves about Windstar is – depending on the itinerary – they spend more than one night at popular ports to give guests more time to explore, sample the local food, and experience everything the city has to offer.
Valletta, the capital of Malta, was Valerie’s favorite stop was on this cruise. When UNESCO named it a World Heritage site, it was described as one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world. One of these great historic sites is St. John’s Cathedral a Baroque landmark with a lavish interior and home to the masterpiece, “The Beheading of Saint John.” To learn more about Windstar, Sicily or any of our upcoming hosted journeys, call your Edgewood Travel Advisor!
My trip to Spain is turning out to be so much different than what I expected. I have been primarily in the Castilla y Leon region where the history is so powerful... you can see it, touch it and even feel it. In the past few days I have stood on a wall that was built 1,000 years before Christ was born; I have seen a tapestry preserved from the 15th century and visited a village built in 1492. These things may not have the notoriety as relics and villages found in other parts of Europe, but if you're one of many Americans who has not visited Spain because you don't think you'll get a "European" experience - I encourage you to rethink your bucket list.
Spain has 17 provinces and most of my time was spent in the one called Castilla y Leon. This region is often overshadowed by Barcelona and Madrid, but it shouldn't be. Within this province there are several UNESCO World Heritage sites as well as a section of the Douro river, amazing gastronomy and fantastic wine.
There is a quaint main square where villagers sell local honey & acorn products and the charming cobblestone streets are lined with small, authentic shops that offer beautiful silver jewelry, leather bags, ceramic dishes, Iberian ham and more.
The local house museum is especially interesting because the curator grew up in the house with his grandparents. After their deaths, he turned the house into a museum to pay homage to their lives. As I walked around the house, I felt more like a guest in a home because the museum paints a perfect picture as to how the curator's grandparents and other residents lived early on.

I’m headed to Spain in a few days and I’m really excited, but boy do I have a lot to do before I go! Not only am I working long hours to make sure my clients are taken care of, but there’s all the other stuff associated with going away. I’m sure you can relate to these last minute details we always seem to stress over – figuring out what to pack, getting your house in order, arranging pet sitters, contacting credit card companies, and that’s just the beginning of the list! My advice? Do what one of my clients recently told me to do… take some deep breaths and know that the really important things will get done and all the other stuff won’t matter when you’re 30,000 feet in the air on your way to an amazing adventure.
This picture of my desk says it all… I’m busy
