A perfect start in Venice
Kari Lee and her husband Robert arrived early in Venice to acclimate before embarkation. Staying at their favorite boutique hotel, they embraced the city’s magic with long walks, canal views, and a well-earned “Super Man” title for Robert, who handled the many bridge crossings with enthusiasm.
Welcome aboard EXPLORA I
Transported seamlessly to the ship by Valerie and Oriana’s arrangements, the couple stepped aboard the EXPLORA I for what Kari Lee called “a brand-new level of fabulous in the world of cruising.” From that moment forward, she declared Explora Journeys would be their exclusive cruise line.
Their culinary journey began at The Emporium Marketplace, which Kari Lee raved far exceeded typical cruise buffets. “Handmade pastas, oysters, a seafood station—and you never carry your own plates!” With smiling waiters delivering each dish, her role as “Pampered Queen” began with a glass of sparkling rosé in hand.
Exploring unique ports
What truly stood out to Kari Lee was the thoughtfully curated itinerary. Ports like Rovinj, Ancona, and Bari offered charm and authenticity with fewer crowds. “We loved the EXPLORA I cruise because of the itinerary of new ports with fewer tourists,” she said.
In Kotor, Kari Lee discovered a city that doubles as a cat sanctuary. From the donation booth at the city gates to feline-filled parks, she documented her experience with 19 kitty photos.
At sea, indulgence continued. Kari Lee swapped her usual avocado toast for a custom-made crepe and made daily visits to the Gelateria Creperie. “2 scoops, of course!” she laughed. She also discovered Crema, Explora Journey’s café serving after-dinner latte macchiatos—a favorite indulgence alongside oysters and wine for Robert.
Ports with personality
Each stop brought something new: Chania, a return to a beloved favorite; Marmaris, with its yacht-filled harbor and long seaside esplanade; and Samos, where Kari Lee wished for another day to enjoy the waterfront cafes.
The highlight? Celebrating her birthday at Sakura, one of EXPORA I’s specialty restaurants. The team surprised her with singing, a decadent chocolate cake, and a warm, personalized atmosphere. “I vowed to celebrate my 2026 birthday earlier so I can take the leftovers to our cabin!”
